Rooftop Celebrations In Saigon For NYE

By Joe Fotalattee

This New Year’s Eve in Saigon, you could try to view the fireworks from one of the hundreds of rooftop bars. It would be almost absurd to name just a few, so we’ll give a rundown of the most popular choices since we also enjoy being fancy once a year.

Notable locations for NYE include The Rex Rooftop Restaurant, open twenty-four hours a day and provides views of Bach Dang Quay at Ham Nghi Street and Nguyen Hue Flowers Street. Bitexco Financial Tower, The Deck Saigon, and Land Mark 81, all offer glimpses of the skylines. Additionally, there are two non-venue locations for fireworks for the budget conscious, at Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11 and at the start of the tunnel that crosses the Saigon River in Thu Thiem ward, District 2.

One of the more iconic options is Saigon Saigon Bar, one of the city’s most upscale bars with stunning views of the city. Located on the top floor of the Caravelle Hotel, the rooftop bar is the ideal location to take in the NYE fireworks displays. This year was the passing of Kevin Gallarello, a phenomenal guitarist and singer who would play any song request, and it was a loss to the live music scene that this venue promotes. As the storied Saigon Saigon bar creates new memories in time as 2023 approaches, we’ll be raising a glass to the many wonderful memories he gave us.

Moreover, if you go too far in celebrating, East West is having its annual Kegs and Eggs New Year’s Day brunch. What is your favorite rooftop venue? Please leave it in the comments section and enjoy the holiday celebrations!

This year, kindly be cautious in crowded areas and narrow alleyways. As Halloween demonstrated, we can practice being Read more

Vietnam Resolving Maritime Disputes

By Joe Fotalattee

An agreement announced on December 23rd resolves Indonesia and Vietnam’s 12-year maritime boundary dispute.

The agreement announced during Vietnam’s President Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s 3-day state visit to Indonesia will ease long-standing tensions between the two nations. China asserts ownership of a portion of the territory that Vietnam and Indonesia had previously disputed, but China’s claim of “historic rights” to the region was rejected when Indonesia and China settled their boundary dispute under the United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The agreement is a significant step toward a unified front by China’s neighbors in the peaceful resolution of maritime disputes in the South China Sea.

The agreement was a component of numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation. By 2028, the two leaders hope to increase bilateral trade to $15 billion. It also resolves years of disputes over fishing areas in the region.

200,000 Strokes Per Year In Vietnam

By Joe Fotalattee

On December 28, a report presented at the National Scientific Conference On Stroke Treatment stated that Vietnam records 200,000 strokes annually.

Only one-third of these patients visit the hospital within the first six hours, the so-called “golden hours,” when treatment is most effective.

The Vietnam Association of Oriental Medicine organized the event and noted that stroke has severe repercussions, affecting the patient’s capacity for independent living and placing a heavy financial burden on society. According to the study, the percentage of patients who develop dementia after a stroke ranges from 6 to 41%. .

The conference is a discussion of methods that can be used in clinical practice and improve patient treatment.

What are stroke symptoms?

  • Suddenly feeling numb or weak, especially on one side of the body, in the face, arm, or leg.
  • Suddenly having trouble speaking or understanding speech.
  • Sudden vision issues in one or both eyes.
  • Sudden difficulty walking, lightheaded, losing your balance, or having poor coordination.

Vietnam’s Economic Growth in 2022

By Joe Fotalattee

In 2022 Vietnam had the fastest annual growth rate in GDP since 1997 thanks to robust domestic retail sales and exports, which increased by 8.02 percent.

The reading is higher than the official growth target of 6.5 percent and growth of just 2.58 percent in the previous year, when COVID lock-downs hurt the economy and affected factory activity.

Despite worries about a global recession and its effects on demand for Vietnam’s exports—a major producer of goods like apparel, footwear, and electronics for well-known international brands—the country has experienced a high annual growth rate.

The General Statistics Office (GSO) stated in a report that “the economic performance is noteworthy amid global economic and political uncertainty and challenges.”.

According to the report, consumer prices increased by 4.55 percent in December from a year earlier. Retail sales increased 19.8 percent in 2022, while exports increased 10.6 percent to $371.85 billion, according to the GSO.
