Rok, an elephant at the Dak Lak Centre for Elephant Conservation, Animal Rescue, and Forest Protection Management, passed away on Thursday, according to Tran Xuan Phuoc, the center’s director.

On January 15, the male elephant was transported from the neighboring Lam Dong Province to Dak Lak thanks to funding from the Animals Asia Foundation (AAF).

The elephant was already in poor health when it was rescued from Lam Dong. Intensive care and treatment were given to the animal by AAF specialists, but the situation did not get better. The center conducted an elephant burial ceremony after completing the autopsy.
