Vietnam’s First Female President

Xuân was previously the youngest Vice President of Vietnam since 1945 and continues to break ground as the first female president of Vietnam in history.

The Standing Committee of the National Assembly announced on January 18th that Vo Thi Anh Xuan, 53, is the acting president of Vietnam.

President Anh Xuan is Vietnam’s first female president in history and replaces Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who resigned from the position a day earlier.

President Anh Xuan will serve in the position until the National Assembly (NA) elects a new president, according to state media, which did not provide an exact date or time for the election.

President Anh Xuan’s appointment complies with the 2013 Constitution, the NA Organization Law, and Politburo’s decision, which is the supreme decision-making body in the nation.

She was born in the province of An Giang in the Southwest. and held positions in her hometown before being chosen vice president in April 2021.
